Church and society leaders from 20 African countries will attend the event, organised by Bible Society.

They keynote speaker launching the event is the President of Malawi, Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika.

He is likely to issue a call for ‘a long overdue’ change in the culture of leadership in Africa.

And, he is expected to say that the current refugee crisis in Europe requires African, as well as European countries, to ‘change in the way we do business’.

David Smith, Head of Bible Society’s International Programme said, ‘When Jesus’ life was in danger, his family fled to Africa. Now as Africans flee to Europe, we should think of the words of Jesus’ brother James, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”’
